An ancient text written by Abdul Alhazred, the "Mad Arab", in the 8th century, containing magical spells and incantations for summoning monsters and archaic deities. The Necronomicon contains forbidden knowledge whose contents can drive a person mad. The name may come from ancient Greek and translates as "An Image of the Law of the Dead".
